The reason I keep coming back
I love Superman. The flying, the cape, the impossible saves—all of it. But what keeps me invested is the idea that someone with that much power still chooses to care. A Superman story should leave me believing that goodness can be strong. It shouldn’t act embarrassed by that idea.
Let him be challenged
Hope doesn’t mean every scene needs sunshine and a reassuring speech. Give him a difficult choice. Put him in a situation where he can’t save everyone at once. Let the world doubt him. I want the pressure to reveal his character, rather than turn kindness into something the story treats as childish.
Give the movie some scale
I also want the spectacle. If I’m watching Superman, I want to feel the scale of what he can do. A great action sequence and a compassionate character can exist in the same movie. The quiet moments make the enormous ones worth caring about.
My test
When the credits roll, did I care about Clark as much as I cared about Superman? Did his choices mean something? Did I feel that the world was better because he was in it? That’s the Superman story I’m looking for.
